Chandima Gomes is a Full Professor of High Voltage Engineering and EPPEI HV Chair at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He was a Full Professor of Electrical Engineering at Universiti Putra Malaysia until October 2018. He was the Head of The Centre for Electromagnetics and Lightning Protection Research, Malaysia (2012-2015). He has held Professorships in Physics, Meteorology and Engineering in several Universities in Asia and Asian campuses of USA and Australian Universities. Being a leading figure at the frontiers of technology, Chandima holds many positions at international level; Chief ADvisor for African Center for Lightning and Electromagnetics (ACLE), Senior Advisor to the National Lightning Safety Institution (NLSI), USA, Team Leader of South Asian Lightning Awareness Program (SALAP) and an office bearer of many other institutions throughout the world. He has pioneered in establishing lightning and EMC research centers in over seven countries during the last few years Apart from his academic career Chandima was the Technical Director of ProMan Ship Builders Ltd., China, Chief Technical Advisor and Senior Consultant of Steelman Electro Mechanical Company LLC, Dubai, Chief Technical Advisor and Senior Consultant of Indus Resources Ltd., Pakistan, Senior Consultant of Capital Consultants Pvt Ltd., Pakistan, Director/International Affairs of LP Consultants International Pvt Ltd., India, Chief Consultant of Zeemax Venture Pvt Ltd, Malaysia and Senior Consultant of LLAMPEC International Pvt Ltd., Sri Lanka. As an engineering professional Chandima has experience in more than 30 countries. Chandima obtained a First Class Degree in Physics from the University of Colombo in 1993. He has done his PhD Degree (1999) and some postdoctoral research on lightning protection and high voltage experiments at Uppsala University, Sweden. In addition to lightning protection, grounding and bonding, he is also an expert in electromagnetic compatibility, occupational safety, atmospheric physics and research methodology. For the last ten years he has conducted over 100 training programs on lightning and transient protection technologies and several other topics on electrical safety to the engineers in Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Dubai, South Africa, Uganda, Namibia, China, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Nepal, Indonesia, Malaysia and Colombia. Chandima has published almost 300 research papers and several books on a wide spectrum of subjects.
